A glorious chapter begins
TVS Group, the Indian conglomerate with interests in transport, automobile dealership, and auto components, establishes Wheels India, foreseeing a rapid growth of the then-nascent Indian automobile industry. The factory in Padi, Chennai is inaugurated by eminent statesmen and admired leaders of the nation.
The factory starts rolling out wheels for cars, trucks, and tractors
1962 - Manufacturing of Wheels for trucks and commercial vehicles
1966 - Launch of Wheels for passenger cars
1968 - Delivery of Wheels for tractors
The product range widens
The company starts supplying heavy-duty wheels for construction equipment manufactured bythe Earthmoving Equipment Division of Hindustan Motors (the division was acquired in 2001 by Caterpillar, USA)
Scaling up to meet market growth
Wheels India sets up its second plant at an expansive 14.73-acre site inRampur, Uttar Pradesh. The factory commences the production of wheels for commercial vehicles and farm equipment.
Diversification into new segments
1982 - Production of Wire Wheels for motorcycles and specialized applications
1986 - Pioneering development of air suspension products for heavy vehicles
1988 - Manufacture of tubeless wheels for a new generation of trucks
Caterpillar endorses Wheels India
Caterpillar (CAT), the multinational leader in heavy-duty equipment, selects Wheels India as their primary supplier for heavy-duty construction and earthmoving machinery.
Making a mark overseas
Wheels India sets up its global footprint with the first export order
Scaling up capacity with the Pune plant
A factory in Pune, Maharashtra, is commissioned to manufacture wheels for light commercial vehicles and farm equipment.

Rapidly enhancing production capabilities
2006 - A new plant at Bawal, Haryana, is inaugurated to augment the production capacity. The factory manufactures wheels for passenger cars and tractors.
2007 - The factory at Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, is operational. The plant manufactures earthmover wheels and air suspension kits for heavy vehicles.
2009 - Wheels India constructs a factory in Pantnagar, Uttarakhand. The plant supplies wheels for cars and farm equipment to OEMs in the region.
A momentous year for Wheels India
Production starts at the heavy engineering facility at Deoli, Maharashtra. The plant fabricates welded beams, boxes, and star columns.
Recognition of employee-friendly policies
Wheels India wins the Annual Award for Outstanding Achievement in Industrial Relations from All India Organisation of Employees.
Continuing to acquire certifications and capability
NABL Accreditation -- ISO/IEC 17025:2005 -- Mechanical/Chemical, CAT SQEP GOLD certification and the fabrication division at Thirumudivakkam, Tamil Nadu, starts production
